This replica of the AR Denarius of Julius Caesar commemorates one of the most pivotal figures in Roman history. Originally minted in 44 BC, shortly before Caesar’s assassination, the coin was issued by moneyer P. Sepullius Macer.
The obverse features a laureate and veiled head of Caesar facing right, inscribed CAESAR DICT PERPETVO (“Caesar, dictator for life”), symbolizing his unprecedented authority and political power in the late Roman Republic.
The reverse depicts Venus standing left, holding Victory and resting a sceptre on a shield, with the moneyer’s name SEPVLLIVS MACER below. Venus, the divine ancestor of the Julian family, emphasizes Caesar’s connection to Rome’s divine lineage and his claim to eternal glory.
