This plaster reproduction is based on the “Head of a Man” fragment preserved in the Musée des Augustins, Toulouse. The piece shows the bearded head of a man crowned with part of a classical capital, a form typical of architectural decoration.
Such sculpted heads were often used in ancient Roman and medieval architecture, either as symbolic guardians, allegorical figures, or decorative supports integrated into buildings. The strong features, curly hair, and stylized beard evoke the influence of classical depictions of gods, heroes, or wise men, reinterpreted in later stonework.
